Why Chinese People Ruin EverythingChinese people invented the standardized test in 605 AD, an invention no one is particularly proud of. Back then, tests were quite different.
You took your tests in a special compound, where you would stay for the next 3 days and 2 nights. (yes, I said THREE DAYS AND TWO NIGHTS)
You were searched for any hidden printed materials and ID'd before entering your testing cell. (yes, I said TESTING CELL)
You were only allowed to bring bedding, food, water, writing tools, and a chamber pot. (yes, I said CHAMBER POT)
You were basically isolated in this whole time, writing essays and poems on Confucian classics, civil law, geography and agriculture m
Sonnet XLIVOp. 24, no. 2
But ah! thought kills me that I am not thought
To be your dearest brother anymore.
And though my own heart may now be distraught
That all of my affections you ignore,
I cannot comprehend the hurt you dealt
To Father. When he held you in his hand,
The greatest love and tenderness he felt.
He grew you fairest in all of the land.
And I, a brother, felt such joy and pride
To laugh and play and talk with you. I prayed
For us to stay forever side by side.
I call your name, but far away you've strayed.
"Come back!" I cry, but echoes fill my ears
And make my heart quail, for I am afraid.
Then Father came. I let fall a
FSC XIV: Sonnet XLIIIOp. 24, no. 1
When in dead night thy fair imperfect shade
Worked deep into the night without respite,
'Twas nights as those when on my bed I laid
And thought of thee, who didst once walk in light.
Did distance misdirect thy wand'ring heart,
Or pent-up doubt thy piety destroy?
To think the end is come before the start,
It wounds my soul to see the devil's ploy.
But though the nighttime feels like life is long,
I hold my hope in blessèd rays of day
That pierce the darkness, though it may seem strong,
And light for wayward souls the homebound way.
Turn back to hope that does not disappoint,
And heal the hearts thy fall pulled out
FSC XIII: Cascades of GraceThe finest strands combined to make a veil
Of purest white, then dashed upon the stones
As surely as the cascade would not fail
To fall with calm and constant tones.
The rocks below the flow, they never thirst,
But polish smooth as waterfalls prevail,
And in the pools of grace are soon immersed.
Though sheet by sheet the cascade may look frail,
It stays serene through fiercest storm and gale.
FSC XII: PromisesMy soul is pacified by your sweet word,
And all my hope is in your saving word,
Above all other sweet things that I've heard.
What promises you've made are good as done
By one whose mighty, righteous arm has done
Great wonders and creations through the Son.
For I have learned to set my vision far
Beyond this life, beyond the stars, and far
Beyond the struggles and the way they scar.
Though I have not lived for a thousand years,
I've found ten thousand ways to praise the years
Where mixed my joyous shouts and doleful tears.
So in the midst of suffering and strife,
My comfort's this: Your promise holds my life.
FSC XI: Writer's BlockThe pressing feeling one feels in the marrow
That seems to squeeze each drop out of the bone
Like toothpaste from a tube that's wrung out narrow
And rolled up tighter than a pebble-stone.
Both dabblers and professionals are prone
To fall into this uncreative curse.
The young, the old, all certainly bemoan
The tight'ning of imagination's purse.
Alas, how long, how far must I traverse
This desert clime that robs me of my rhyme
And leaves me not a verse so very terse
Amidst the arid sands and filthy grime?
Take heart, O sojourner fit to expire,
Take calm inspire, though the times be dire.
